Joining Akili Dada represents an inspired change in course for me. My background is primarily in the corporate sector, where I worked in media and communications, banking and manufacturing. I hold a degree in International Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Management from the United States International University – Africa. As much as I enjoyed my work, there was a part of me that wanted to something different, something more.
After a great deal of soul searching, I came to the conclusion that I was ready to shift to something new. The opportunity to work for something that I truly cared about, and that would challenge me in the ways that are most fulfilling came in the shape of Akili Dada. The incredible work of Akili Dada is what ultimately inspired me to make the change, and to align myself with a cause I hold dear – that of women’s rights.
Akili Dada’s mission to realize both greater and more diverse representation of women in decision-making and leadership roles speaks to me. I believe in the transformative power of education and will utilize my experience to advance the fundraising and communication efforts in my role as Director of Communications & Resource Mobilization. Investing in intelligent, motivated, inspiring dadas from underprivileged backgrounds will result in a better, more prosperous society. With increased women’s leadership and participation in decision-making across all sectors, we will see an improvement in the lives of the underserved who make up a significant part of our population.
I am honored to be a part of the Akili Dada family. The ideals of sisterhood, leadership, integrity, transformation and excellence resonate with me. As I continue to grow as a person, I strive to live by these values. I am extremely fortunate to have wonderful people in my life who support, encourage and guide me. Working with the dadas is my opportunity to pay it forward.
