We visited our Fellow, Valentine Nishimwe in Rwanda. Her social enterprise, Zibeline General Services offers car cleaning services. She employs young women from her community who are unemployed. The car wash hence gives income-generating opportunities for her (a divorced single mother) and the young women she employs. Currently, she has 7 women working at her car wash. The business attracts at least 3 cars per day and 7 motorbikes.

With the seed grant from Akili Dada, she rents out a car wash space that she has modified to make more conducive for a car wash.

Valentine wants to grow her business into a multifaceted cleaning business which offers other services such as carpet washing, dry cleaning among others.

She is, therefore empowering young women economically by providing them with a source of income. One such lady is Rosaline Mukeshimana, a 26-year-old who graduated with a degree in Agriculture. Since graduation, Rosaline has been unable to get a job and instead of staying at home, she now works at the car wash which affords her a source of income. Rosaline’s dream is to start an Agribusiness as her passion lies in Agriculture but for now, she is grateful that the car wash allows her to earn a source of income and interact with other young women like herself.
