Akili Dada is an international award-winning leadership incubator nurturing a generation of young African women from underprivileged backgrounds whose commitment to the underserved will transform their communities.  Our leadership development curriculum creates the foundation on which young women ages 13-35 build their skills and earn the essential qualifications they need to access key decision-making roles and leadership positions.  By selecting from and building the capacity of some of Africa’s most innovative young women change makers, we are meeting the urgent need for both more African women in leadership as well as the overall need for transformative leadership across the continent. About the Gap Year Program

Our Gap-Year Program recruits East African high school graduates to take part in a 9-12 month program that targets girls aged 17-20.  Through intensive skills development training, internship placement and community service engagement, the Gap Year Program provides a space for these girls to transition to university and beyond.

Components of the Gap-Year Program

  • University Preparation

We focus on the application for competitive fully funded scholarship opportunities within the continent and abroad.

  •  Experiential Learning

The girls take part in internships, mentorship and community service as well as outdoor leadership academies that focus on servant leadership.

  • Skills-Based Learning

We empower the girls with tangible skills like IT that they will continue to use for years to come.

  • Talent Exploration and Development

We provide a space for our girls to explore their talents in arts, dance, photography and sports.

  • Life Skills

With an experienced faculty, we prepare the Gap-year students with essential skills that would help them to own their lives and thrive. 

  • Paying it Forward

Our girls design and carry out community service projects that address various needs in their community.

INVESTMENT

Day scholars - Kshs 13,500 per month 

Boarders - Kshs 20,000 per month inclusive of meals and accommodation

Why would you like to join the Akili Dada Gap Year Program? Please describe the skills you would like to acquire during your Gap Year. Also describe 2 things that you would like to achieve before your transition to university and indicate how you plan to achieve them.
What course would you like to pursue in University/College? Indicate whether or not you would like to pursue your university education outside Kenya.
Did you have any leadership role in high school? If yes, please describe one challenge that you faced as a leader and how you solved this challenge.
Please give an example of a successful community initiative/project that you were involved in and describe your role in this initiative.
Please describe your greatest achievements/strengths (outside academics) from your time in high school.
