As we walk through life, we all need someone to hold our hand and help us take those important steps in our journey. Mentorship has indeed seen people to great heights all around the world and in the spirit of passing it on, we (the Akili Dada Interns) had a mentoring session at Moonlight Centre School where we invited our own mentors to meet and speak with
the girls.

The theme of the session was “goals and goal-setting”. It was a very interactive session where we exchanged goals with the girls. We also discussed some of the potential challenges they may when setting goals
and how to overcome them. One of the things that came out very clearly is that our environment has a great influence on the decisions we make. The girls shared their own stories and it was clear that all they needed was a little guidance to inspire positivity and help them overcome the stereotypical notions that surround their existence.

At the end of the discussion, all of the groups presented on what they had learned from their mentors and fellow group members. It was evident that to achieve our goals we need to uphold certain values. These include: hard work, commitment, discipline, courage, and more. All-in-all the session was very educational and action-oriented.
