“You don’t owe anyone an explanation…just do it! Everyone respects action and results.”
- Njeri Chelimo
Njeri captured 2014 Dadas Lead Conference perfectly. This was a forum held to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of Akili Dada for the past year and going by the numbers that graced the event, respect was duly accorded.
A panelist of very innovative and successful young women shared their journey to success and what really drove them to pursue their passion in spite of whatever criticism they got. The panel included; Judith Owigar (CEO AkiraChix), Sharon Mundia (Fashion Blogger at www.thisisess.com and Capital Lifestyle ), Martha Njeri Chumo (Kenyan Techie: CEO The Dev School) and Watiri Njuguna (CEO Tiris Kitchen Restaurant).
In addition to that, the Akili Dada scholars, alumnae and club members shared their projects for the year to show the results from the support that Akili Dada had given them. A prize giving session was also held to appreciate those who had done well academically and had exceptional community projects. Interns at the office were also awarded for the work done during their gap period before joining University.
In a moving moment, Dr. Wanjiru Rutenberg was recognized for her wonderful job at the organization and handed over to the new Executive Director, Purity Kagwiria. The day couldn’t have ended any better as the ceremony was closed by a phenomenal girl group called ‘Kiu’. The title is a Swahili word that is translated directly to mean thirst. KIU left the crowd thirsty for more of their acapella renditions.
