Akili Dada has partnered with Safaricom Women in Technology (WIT) and Iridescent Learning to roll out a first of its kind program in Kenya; the Technovation Challenge.

Technovation Challenge is the largest and longest-running global technology competition exclusively for girls to inspire the pursuit of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

The Challenge brings together teams of four to five high school girls for a period of 12 weeks to learn the basics of coding and to develop mobile applications that solves a problem in their local communities. Each team will be supported by an advisor and a mentor from technology industry who will guide them through the basics of coding, user-interface design, market research, and entrepreneurship and presentation skills. The mentor will also share her experience as a woman in Technology industry with the girls; the mentor is be provided by Akili Dada and Safaricom Women in Technology.

At the end of the 12 week program, the teams will summit their projects to a global competition where the winning team will stand a chance to win USD10, 000 and a trip to the Silicon Valley in California, USA for the final award ceremony. We will also have local awards for the best developed projects.

We believe that this program will make a great difference to the girls and motivate them to reach their optimum potential with the possibility of choosing careers in technology.
