Akili: Intellect, ability, strategy, knowledge, competence
Dada: Sister; a term of endearment, respect, and familiarity among women
Akili Dada is an international award-winning leadership incubator nurturing a generation of young African women from underprivileged backgrounds whose commitment to the underserved is transforming their communities.
Our leadership development curriculum creates the foundation on which young women ages 13-35 build their skills and earn the essential qualifications they need to access key decision-making roles and leadership positions.
By selecting from, and building the capacity of some of Africa’s most innovative young women change-makers we are meeting the urgent need for both more African women in leadership, as well as the overall need for transformative leadership across the continent.
We invest talented young women from underprivileged backgrounds by providing:
- Direct financial assistance including comprehensive scholarships enabling brilliant but poor girls access to the top high schools they have qualified for but cannot afford to attend. We also provide seed funding and stipends to allow young women from marginalized communities to grow their social change projects to scale and sustainability.
- Personalized and group mentoring by a cohort of dedicated professional women committed to blazing the trail and supporting their younger sisters’ journeys to success.
- Rigorous leadership skills training based on a service learning pedagogy where young women learn how to lead by designing and driving social change projects in their marginalized home communities.
As part of our growing efforts at financial sustainability we also plan to offer our expertise in women’s leadership development on the capacity building marketplace. For a fee, corporations, non-profits, foundations, and even individuals will be able to tap into Akili Dada’s deep knowledge on women’s leadership broadly defined. Akili Dada’s award winning team will be on hand to deliver customized training to individuals and groups on a diverse range of topics relating to women’s leadership.
