Celebrating the artistic and literary expression of young girls through the Dadas Lead Art Contest.

The 2017 Dadas Lead Art Contest, is an annual initiative of Akili Dada, an international, award-winning leadership incubator cultivating transformative leadership in a generation of young African women from underprivileged backgrounds. The initiative seeks to celebrate the Day of the Girl, an international observance marked annually on the 11th of October, to raise awareness on the issues girls face.

Twenty outstanding art pieces, paintings, drawings, poems and essays have been selected by the Akili Dada judging panel out of almost 300 entries from all East African countries, Rwanda, Nigeria and even Bulgaria.

Chair of the judges, Ann Njeru, said of this year’s shortlist:

“The extraordinary ability of young girls expressing themselves authentically is unique and remarkable. The work submitted was an open exhibition of the creative power and prowess that girls have. At Akili Dada, we hope the Dadas Lead Art Show will encourage girls globally to hone their skills and talent. With these armor, you can achieve your goals and effectively voice the problem issues you face. Keep at it!”
