Akili Dada is excited to be part of a powerful global movement that is focused on helping girls go to school and raise their voices for their right to education. We are grateful of the budding partnerships we have with FilmAid Kenya in mentoring refugee girls in the Daadab and Kakuma Refugee Camps.

We recognize the commitment of Docubox – The East African Documentary Film Fund in bringing Malala to thousands of school girls in partnership with Akili Dada.
We have screened the film at Mazeras Memorial Girls High School in Kwale County, Garemara Secondary School in Isiolo County, Kakenya Centre of Excellence in Narok County as well as Precious Girls High School Riruta, Mary Hill Girls High School and The Kenya High School.
We have also joined FilmAid International in mentoring school going girls in the Daadab and Kakuma Refugee Camps who have watched the film and drawn inspiration from it.
Some of the key learnings are:
“No matter how young you are, you can still fight for a cause and make an impact in your society.” “No matter how old you are, you can still make a change.” “Girls have a right to education and should be encouraged to further their education.” “Don’t take the simple things for granted- We should be thankful that we are able to attend school.” “No tradition or authority is too high or too strong to be corrected.” “One book, one child, one teacher truly can change the world.”
He Named Me Malala is an intimate portrait of Nobel Peace Laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. The then 15- year old was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for girls’ education, and the attack on her sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now leading a campaigner for girls’ education globally as co-founder of the Malala Fund.
Happy Birthday Malala! May you live to see all girls in Kenya and the world over go to school!
