In the world of politics, resources and particularly the intangibles – goodwill, image, accountability and trust – determine accessibility to power. Beyond financial resources, the intangibles are those things that need to be built and strengthened to enable any leader and young woman in particular overcome a range of formal and informal barriers that limit their political participation.

They include access to opportunities, community buy-in, economic linkages, a change of perception over women’s appropriate roles and leadership capabilities. These intangibles introduce a new angle and determine how successful a young woman can be in fulfilling her political aspirations.

We, at Akili Dada, are working with young women political aspirants to overcome these barriers to political participation. We recently held a resource mobilization training for political aspirants in Nairobi below are snippets of the training.
