Women, Entrepreneurship, and Negotiation Skills
Training on June 29, 2013

Too nervous to ask for a good starting salary for your first job or for a raise at work?

Concerned about standing up to or competing with the “big boys” in your degree or field?

Curious about what kind of negotiator you are?

Join Akili Dada for an interactive and informative session on Women, Entrepreneurship, and Negotiation Skills on Saturday, June 29th from 9am-2pm in at the Akili Dada offices near Nakumatt Junction (Riara Corporate Suites, 2nd Floor, Riara Road off Ngong Road). The training is for young women ages 18-24.

Akili Dada is partnering with California Lutheran University to conduct a training with women in Kenya to better understand the urgent need for teaching negotiation skills to women around the world.

Negotiation is part of our daily lives. We constantly negotiate our space, money, family time, relationships, business deals, financial investments, and more. Yet how often have you thought about what kind of skills it takes to be a confident, skilled, and ethical negotiator in any area of your life? During this half-day training, you will gain a better understanding of what negotiation means and why it is critical to develop better negotiation skills through a fun and interactive “coalition bargaining” exercise with real-world stakes and the opportunity to win great prizes. You’ll also have the chance to meet and network with other young women who are passionate about advancing themselves personally and professionally.

The training will begin at 9am and will go until 1pm, with lunch provided afterward.

Space is limited to 20 participants, so please confirm your participation ASAP by sending 300ksh via Mpesa (0721-552120) or Airtel Money (0736-678701). Your spot cannot be confirmed until the payment is received. For any questions, please contact alliso[at]akilidada.org.

The mission of California Lutheran University, which is located in Southern California, is to educate leaders for a global society who are strong in character and judgment, confident in their identity and vocation, and committed to service and justice. The University’s School of Management is leading this research project to explore how women entrepreneurs can develop increased levels of negotiation self-efficacy to maximize outcomes and avoid leaving unclaimed value on the negotiation table at any stage of their careers and in whatever capacity, both in their personal and professional lives.
